Xiaodi Ding is a member of Shanghai Pacific Legal’s Intellectual Property and Antitrust & Competition team.
In respect of Intellectual Property, Xiaodi has experience in representing clients in both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property affairs. His practice includes patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair-competition, and other intellectual property & technique-related matters and can provide a full spectrum of IP services. As regards Antitrust and Competition, Xiaodi mainly acts as PRC local counsel representing multinational companies in merger control procedures before the State Administration for Market Regulation. His experience ranges across various industry sectors, including semiconductor, telecommunications, software, media, fast moving consumer goods, traditional and new energy, finance, LNG shipping, etc.
Xiaodi received his bachelor’s degree of electronic engineering from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and then obtained a Juris Master degree from Shanghai University. In 2019, he also obtained the LLM degree from New York University School of Law. Xiaodi is admitted in both the PRC and New York State, USA and also qualified as a patent attorney in China. He speaks Chinese and English.

Representative experience
Intellectual property:
- Represented a famous US high tech corporation in securing and expanding its patent rights portfolio in the PRC.
- Conducted prior art searches and drafted several patents for PRC domestic companies.
- Represented several clients in judicial review for trademark applications before Beijing IP Court.
- Represented a A-stock listed education related company in massive serious copyright infringement cases against another high-tech company, and successfully secured an over 1 million RMB damage.
- Advised an international MNC in its global patent portfolio re-organization project involving over 9 jurisdictions.
- Advised an international energy group in its IP due diligence targeted at Chinese originating techs.
- Advised a Europe based classification society in enforcing its software copyrights against software pirates on e-commercial platforms.
- Provided consultations related to IP topics to clients, including intellectual property strategies, IP infringements and invalidations, IP licenses and commercialization, etc.
Antitrust and competition:
- Obtained SAMR clearances for multiple multi-billion dollar LNG production joint ventures involving QatarEnergy, TotalEnergies, ENI, Shell, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhilips.
- Obtained SAMR clearances for several LNG vessel joint ventures involving Japanese shipping companies and their counterparts in China, Malaysia and other countries.
- Advised and represented a large Indonesian mining company in securing SAMR merger control clearance in relation to the US$1.5billion acquisition from a direct competitor of coal mines with exports to China.
- Secured SAMR merger control clearance for multiple joint venture transactions between multinational companies in the renewable energy sector, including solar, wind, hydrogen and battery storage.
